Calculated harvest estimates from DEC's deer report cards, published per WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT UNIT. Fourteen unbroken seasons, 2012-2025 — the deepest run of any state here. ⚠️ NO HUNTER COUNTS, ANYWHERE. New York's deer season is effectively over-the-counter, so DEC estimates TAKE and never publishes an effort denominator per unit. Every row therefore carries harvest with no hunters and no success rate, and that is the publication rather than a gap in the read. What New York gives instead, and no other state here does, is harvest DENSITY per square mile. ⚠️ THE VARIANTS ARE A COMPOSITION, NOT A CALENDAR. Other states split harvest by season; New York splits it by what was killed — `antlered` against `antlerless` — because the season barely varies and the tag does. "Antlerless" is DEC's own term and includes does, doe fawns AND button bucks, so roughly a tenth of it is male. ⚠️ TWO INCOMPATIBLE TABLE DESIGNS, ONE SERIES. 2012-2019 published "Deer Take by WMU" as bucks + total; 2020-2025 publishes "Deer Harvest by WMU" resolved into male/female × adult/fawn. Only antlered/antlerless/total is common to both, so that is what is emitted for every season — the richer modern detail is deliberately not allowed to fragment a fourteen-year series into two four-year ones. ⚠️ EVERY TABLE IS TWO-UP, two units per printed line. A reader anchored to the start of a line returns 46 units that are all individually correct, which is why the unit count is asserted per season rather than eyeballed. 89 of the 92 WMUs carry harvest. 1A and 2A (New York City) and 9C (metropolitan Buffalo) have no open deer season, appear in no DEC harvest or permit table, and show up in the reports only as labels on the maps. The 2024 report is 16 MB on the challenged host and reachable by neither curl nor WebFetch; see scripts/ny-harvest-to-csv.py for how it was retrieved. Deer only.
